Berton House Writers Retreat Program

“The Berton House Writer’s Residence Retreat provides a unique opportunity for a professional Canadian creative writer to work in a remote Northern community. The writer is housed free of charge in the boyhood home of author Pierre Berton in Dawson City, Yukon. This program was initiated by Pierre Berton and is organized by the Yukon Arts Council in Whitehorse and the Klondike Visitor’s Association and the Dawson City Libraries’ Association in Dawson City.”

Christopher Lake: Saskatchewan Writers and Artists Colony

“For nearly thirty years, the Saskatchewan Writers and Artists Colony has served thousands of Saskatchewan and Canadian writers and artists by providing a quiet refuge where creative people can come together and practise their craft.”

“This colony uses the facilities of The Quest at Christopher Lake, a Baptist camp and retreat centre. Christopher Lake is located in a forest region approximately 60 km northwest of Prince Albert. The colony site is at the north end of Christopher Lake on thirty-five acres of forested land with one and a half kilometres of shoreline. To the north and across the lake to the east is unoccupied, forested Crown land..”

St. Peter's Abbey: Saskatchewan Writers and Artists Colony

“For nearly thirty years, the Saskatchewan Writers and Artists Colony has served thousands of Saskatchewan and Canadian writers and artists by providing a quiet refuge where creative people can come together and practise their craft.”

“The colony location, St. Peter’s Abbey, is a Benedictine monastery set in a serene rural location a short tree-lined walk from the village of Muenster. The larger town of Humboldt is 10 km away. St. Peter’s operates a press, greenhouse, gardens, farm, and vocational high school on its grounds.”

“Once again, individual retreats are being offered almost year-round at St.Peter’s Abbey. These retreats allow individuals to choose a period of time to work on their own. Individual retreats are limited to Saskatchewan residents and to one week per person annually.”
