Stephen Brockwell

Draught

Re-glaze the frame’s cracked putty;
keep the heat in and our socks off.

Tape it up with plastic. Cut the draught
and let us sleep in less than sweaters.

But save the old glass; its pocks
and ridges make an accidental

prism for the winter sunlight
and spread its colours on our bed.

Stephen Brockwell lives, writes and works in Ottawa and other places. His book Fruitfly Geographic received the 2005 Archibald Lampman Award for the best book of poetry by an Ottawa resident. He is a mathematician by training, an IT consultant of necessity and a poet by inclination.
