Susan Robertson

Late Spring

Each branch tipped
with a folded cone, gasping
like fish in air:

Spring is late, limping.

Now a goldfinch flits
by the feeder — a daffodil
with wings.

Susan Robertson was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, but has lived in Ottawa for the past 18 years. She was awarded an honourable mention in the League of Canadian Poets 1999 Canadian Chapbook Competition and has had work published in Vallum, Descant, and the anthology Cinquefoil.
